TOPEKA—Hon. Paul E. Miller, chief judge of the 21st Judicial District, will sit with the state Supreme Court Thursday, September 16th, to hear appeals in four matters on the Court’s docket.

The Supreme Court appointed Judge Miller to join them in place of Chief Justice Robert E. Davis, who died August 4th. Judge Miller is currently completing his 28th year as a district judge. He has been chief judge of the 21st Judicial District, which includes Clay and Riley counties, since 1997.

He will hear oral arguments in an adoption appeal and three criminal cases and then participate in the high court deliberations and opinion drafting.

Chief Judge Miller graduated from Kansas State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science in 1969 and then graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 1972. He served as an assistant Riley County Attorney from January 1973 until March 1974, then was elected Riley County Attorney in 1975, where he served two years.

In August 1977, he was appointed Special Municipal Court Judge by the City of Manhattan to handle alcohol-related offenses and began his tenure as a district judge on December 1, 1982.
