Search records at Kansas Judicial Center 

Public appellate court records are available at the Kansas Judicial Center. A computer terminal in the Judicial Center is reserved for visitors who want to search appellate case information and court records. 

Sealed cases and sealed records are not public, and some cases are exempt from disclosure under the Kansas Open Records Act (K.S.A. 45-221). Other records may be exempt by judicial rule, order, or case law. 
 

Search using public access portal

Public appellate court records may also be searched using the Kansas Appellate Court Public Access Portal.

Cases and records not available through the portal are identified in Supreme Court Kansas eCourt Rules (20–25).

Supreme Court Rule 22: Access to Public Electronic District Court and Appellate Case Records

Case types temporarily unavailable on the portal include:

• juvenile offender

• disciplinary      

• original actions

Case information versus case records

Case information includes details about a case. This would be the case number, case type, who’s involved, names of attorneys, and hearing dates.

Court records include the documents filed in the case.

You can search case information through the public access portal for all public case types, but only records (documents) filed March 13, 2025, and after will be available. If you need a record filed before March 13, 2025, you can request it from the clerk of the appellate courts. 

Information in some cases is not public because it’s sealed or is exempt from disclosure by state statute, judicial rule, order, or case law.
 

Date records became available

Kansas appellate courts began offering public portal search of case information on March 24, 2025. Only documents filed on or after March 13, 2025, are available on the portal. Case information will be available, but only documents filed on or after March 13, 2025, will be available.
