District Judge David PlattTOPEKA—Judge David R. Platt has announced he is retiring January 12, 2015, after 22 years serving on the bench in the 8th judicial district, which includes Dickinson, Geary, Marion and Morris counties.

“It has been an honor to serve the 8th judicial district since 1993, and I will miss working with great colleagues and staff,” Platt said.

Platt said he plans to spend time playing golf and traveling, but he will also keep his law license current.

“I will continue to maintain a residence in Junction City, where my family has practiced law since 1908 and where I continue to have many good friends,” he said.

However, he and his wife, Cyndy, will spend most of their time in Parkville, so they can be near their daughter who lives in Kansas City and near the airport for traveling to visit their son and grandson who live in Austin.

Before becoming a judge, Platt was in private law practice, was a city commissioner, mayor and city attorney in Junction City, and twice was assistant Geary County attorney. He graduated from Washburn University School of Law.
