District Judge Gary HouseTOPEKA—After serving eight years as district judge, Judge Gary House will retire when his current term ends January 9, 2017.

House was elected district judge in 2009. Before he became a judge, he had a private law practice for 44 years.

"It has been my honor and privilege to serve as district judge for the 14th judicial district," House said. "I am grateful to the people of Chautauqua and Montgomery counties for their support. I am especially grateful to my fellow judges, members of the bar, the wonderful clerks and staff that make up our judicial district, and my wife, Mary, who gives me support and encouragement on a daily basis."

House graduated from Washburn University School of Law in 1965. He served as Chautauqua County Attorney from 1969 through 1979.

After retiring from the bench, House will reopen his private law practice in Sedan and practice primarily in Montgomery, Chautauqua and Elk counties.
