Judicial districts whose residents have voted to adopt a nonpartisan method for selecting judges have a judicial nominating commission that accepts nominations and interviews nominees.

In the event of a district judge vacancy, the nominating commission forwards the names of finalists to the governor, who appoints a replacement.

In the event of a magistrate judge vacancy, the nominating commission makes the appointment.

Lawyer members of these judicial district nominating commissions are elected to serve by other lawyers in the judicial district. The clerk of the Kansas Supreme Court oversees these judicial district elections.

The clerk of the Supreme Court today released the following list of newly elected lawyers who will serve four-year terms that begin March 2, 2020.

When the number of nominees do not exceed the number of positions to be filled, state law requires the nominees be declared elected. These nominees are marked with an asterisk (*).
